The Experience

Children’s portrait sessions are based around an activity – be it a walk in the park, hide and seek in the woods or den building in your living room. It’s not about getting dressed up for the photographer, posing on a beanbag and forcing a smile. It’s about having fun.

We usually photograph for between one and three hours, leaving time for breaks and any change in location or clothing. Kids are pretty good at calling a halt on proceedings, so getting an early start allows us to stop for lunch and wait out any objections. It also means we can take advantage of the best light, which usually shows itself in the morning. Portrait sessions always start with a plan, but we build in loads of flexibility. If it rains we wear wellies, and if the sun should shine, I’ve got the factor 15. Dark skies should never spell the end of photography, and in black and white especially, they can look really fantastic.

Once the session is finished we will arrange a time for you to view the results. This happens within the comfort of your home, so you can best decide how you would like to have the photographs presented. I will show you examples of prints and frames, and work through the proof images, providing as much advice and guidance as you like. Three or four weeks later you will have a stunning collection of photographs, presented beautifully in bespoke frames, ready for hanging in your home.
